Note from The Wild Rose Press

Just received a note from The Wild Rose Press, Champagne Line editor saying she loved the setting for my story and couldn't wait to "dig in" and start reading.  I've got my fingers and toes crossed.  I should know something in a week or two.

BRAZILIAN FIRE not rejected

TWRP has not rejected my romance BRAZILIAN FIRE, they actually gave me advice on revisions and I have done the revisions and sent the frist three chapters back for their consideration.

Some advice they gave me might help other writers out there.

1.  Hook the reader immediately.  That means start your story in the action.

2.  Don't start with backstory and tons of description it weighs the beginning down and makes it drag.  ie: don't make it sound like a travel log!  That was one of my shortcomings.

3.  Know what category your Rromance fits into:  Romantic suspense, romance with elements of suspense etc.

4.  Another piece of advice.  Write for the reader not yourself.  Meaning no matter how much you love a place or thing or whatever others may not be as enamored as you.  If you spend a lot of time on that you'll certainly kill it for your readers.  Write what you love, but don't over do it with the descriptions of people, places, things it slows the momentum.  I found that out when they said my story read like a travel log.

5.  Listen to editors they know what they're talking about and they know the market.

Here are two books recommended by Laura Kelly, Editor of Crimson Rose at The Wild Rose Press:

1.  SELF-EDITING FOR FICTION WRITERS, BY RENNI BROWNE AND DAVE KING (second edition)

2.  WRITING DIALOGUE, BY TOM CHIARELLA

I'd like to add another  book from the WRITER'S DIGEST, ELEMENTS OF FICTION WRITING: CONFLICT, ACTION & SUSPENSE, BY WILLIAM NOBLE

Another piece of advice:  Read best selling authors in the category you want to write in.
